⭐ 1 STAR – PATIENT ABANDONMENT AFTER HOSPITAL DISCHARGE The company that took over Amedisys Home Health in Florence, AL - Adoration -discharged my mother by phone call just TWO DAYS after she was released from the hospital, with no transition of care, no replacement services arranged, and no concern for patient safety. My mother was discharged from the hospital with the explicit understanding—shared by the hospital caseworker—that she would be coming home under Amedisys’ care. The hospital caseworker worked directly with Amedisys prior to discharge. Despite this coordination, the company abruptly dropped her two days later due to prior hospitalizations, leaving her completely without home health services and without a safe plan in place. This was not a proper discharge. This was patient abandonment. While my mother was hospitalized, an Amedisys representative named Carla visited her in the hospital and stated to me—in a condescending manner—that “next time you may want to think about not sending her to the hospital at all.” The implication was deeply troubling: that seeking emergency medical care for my mother was an inconvenience to the home health agency rather than a medical necessity. No patient or family should ever feel pressured to avoid lifesaving hospital care to protect a home health company’s metrics. There was: • No in-person discharge • No written plan of care • No coordination with physicians • No continuity of care Just a phone call ending services two days after hospital discharge, leaving a medically fragile patient without support. This conduct is alarming, unethical, and dangerous. Leadership should be extremely concerned about operations in Florence, AL, as this behavior places patients at risk and families in crisis. If you are considering this company for a loved one, ask very direct questions about how they handle post-hospital discharges and patients with complex medical needs. We trusted them—and were left without care.

Amedysis met my husband and me when he came home from Vanderbilt Critical Care Unit to die. They covered so many questions before they left, and gave me supplies, arranged for oxygen, and set up a time to come back. I did not have to make any trips to the pharmacy to pick up meds. When my husband died, the nurse came very quickly. Their psychological support was comforting. For 1 year afterward I received supportive pamphlets to lift my spirits. These thoughtful people made this experience much easier for me.
Dr Jackson
My mom needed home health after leaving rehab at Keller Landing. She had an awesome team especially her nurse Hayley. She quickly noticed my mom's mild symptoms & identified them as COVID. She acted quickly & called her dr & ambulance. My mom & I both were vaccinated but tested positive. Her fast acting literally saved our lives. She even continued to check on my mom during her entire hospital stay. We ate thankful! We are using this service again & I'm not sure what has changed but it'd definitely not the same experience. We're on nurse #3 in just a weeks time & my mom has dementia. When I inquired about my mom's meds or had questions I was told I had caregivers syndrome, that the focus was only on my mom's wounds & that she had other patients so she couldn't just focusing on my mom. I am so shocked as I have highly recommend this company & had such a great experience before. The therapist & bath aid have been awesome, kind & thorough but the nurse seems to be detached & it's extremely hurtful.

From: Rhonda Jones Amedisys Hospice of Florence Al took excellent care of my mom in her last weeks of life. Whenever we had a question or concern, the nurse did a prompt callback when we called the service. No matter the time of night if we felt we needed a nurse's help, one would show up. We never felt rushed in a visit and the nurse never failed to ask if we had any questions or concerns we wanted her to address. Whenever taking care of my mom whether it was taking blood pressure, helping clean her, whatever the situation, the nurses always addressed mom and told her what they were doing. It was one of the most respectful actions I have witnessed and we followed their example when approaching mom to administer medicine, take her temp, wash her face, etc. What a wonderful way to lead by example. The bath aide was gentle caring and allowed us to help and showed us the best way to move mom and make her comfortable. All of the staff was respectful and caring. What was a stressful time was made easier by the caring staff, the taking care of ordering any meds and supplies, to offering spiritual help and for handling the calls when our sweet mom passed. A special thank you to nurses Caroline Dolan and Heather Hill. You have that special and calming touch needed when a family is heartbroken. To Tish who took great care when seeing moms bathing and clean linens. Thank you for treating our family like your family.. Sincerely, R. Jones
