Communication is critical in healthcare, and unfortunately this company failed repeatedly. Two days ago, we received a call informing us that my mother’s in-home care had been approved. We were told a nurse, OT, and PT would be contacting us to schedule visits. This was initially great news. During that call, I specifically mentioned that we have dogs in the home, hoping this would be noted and not become an issue later. Shortly after, a nurse called to schedule the first appointment. My elderly mother accidentally hung up, so I immediately called back to apologize and get the appointment details. Instead of understanding, the nurse was rude from the start, responding curtly with “I texted you.” I explained I had seen the text but had a few questions. Her attitude remained dismissive and unprofessional. When I asked if she had been informed about the dogs, her response was even more concerning. She rudely stated, “I’ll call before I get there and you will put them up.” At that point, I was genuinely worried about how she might treat my mother when no family member is present. I explained that two of the dogs stay out but are harmless and that she seemed fearful of dogs regardless. I then requested a different nurse not because she was afraidof dogs but because of her rude, demeanor. She stated that wasn’t possible, so I asked for the company to contact me. Despite this, I never received a call. Instead, I had to call the company myself to explain the situation and request a different nurse due to the unacceptable behavior. I was told they would find another nurse, but again, no follow-up occurred. During this time, a physical therapist texted saying they would be coming “today,” with no name or time provided. Attempts to call went unanswered. When I texted asking for a time, I was told they didn’t know and would update me. We were never proactively informed of anything. That same evening, we received a call from an entirely different company offering new services, which only added to the confusion. The next morning, when I called the PT for clarification, I was told my mother was not on the schedule—but no one had informed us. Shortly after, I received a text stating that my mother was no longer part of Oasis Home Health Care. At that point, it honestly felt like a relief. The lack of communication, professionalism, accountability, and bedside manner was shocking. This company serves elderly patients who deserve kindness, patience, and respect. What we experienced was the opposite. I sincerely hope this company invests in better training and oversight because if this is how families are treated, I would hate to imagine how vulnerable patients are treated when no one is watching.
