Brother in law used Hope Hospice who says they are Neutral around Medical Aid in Dying. The organization really needs to educate their staff about people who are taking advantage of this California medical option. And assign staff to patients using this option who are not neutral but well informed and pro. Our MAID experience was 22 hours and apparently not the norm and we got no help from Hope Hospice when we called twice expressing concern. I would hope that if there was any concern the hospice provider would be well informed and give us options. They seemed very inept. When he finally died Kristin came to pronounce him dead she was very compassionate. However, I would recommend if your loved is choosing Medical Aid in Dying don't choose a hospice that says they are Neutral on their website. Choose one who is unapologetically PRO medical aid in dying.

Hope Hospice provided outstanding care for my mom in her final days. Joy and Kim were incredibly compassionate and attentive, and their kindness made such a difference for our family. The right people make all the difference, and Hope Hospice has THE right people! Our family was blessed with great nurses and social workers from Hope. They made such a difference in the quality and comfort of our mothers last days. They were kind, professional, patient, considerate, compassionate and timely. Their explanations were clear, and they encouraged questions and answered them completely. I cannot say enough good things about every interaction with Hope, from the first inquiry after hours on a Saturday, with a call back in 15 minutes, to Mom's final minutes with Kristin D- she left an impression on all of us that will last a lifetime- her genuine caring, her gentle way with Mom, her compassion for the whole family- just perfect, at an incredibly difficult time. She has a gift for this work. We had originally engaged another Hospice provider, their people were good too, but we didnt get the level of service we felt like Mom needed or deserved. The switch was smooth and seamless- and truly a blessing.
