Help is great, but scheduling is not consistent

I wanted to say while my mom, who just recently passed away was in Hospice care with this company and I especially wanted to give a shout out to Nurse Diana who came out to bathe my Mom and she was very gentle with her and she did a great job. She was very compassionate. I really appreciate the services Uni Care offered my family at a time like this.

When we first heard of Hospice and started asking around, we heard that it could be intrusive. We heard that Hospice dictates the last months of life of loved ones. But when I spoke with the Uni Care representative, Tanya Fernandez-Perez, even with the extreme pandemic environment in the Imperial Valley, she still managed to find the time to visit us, talk to us in person and provide the information we needed. She was very open and detailed about what we should expect of Hospice. She was very upfront. Some of the decisions we had to make were difficult so we discussed and asked her to come a second time. After discussing what would be best for our mom, not for us, we were convinced that Hospice would be the best option for our mother on her last days. The support that we received included spiritual support, social help on how to overcome some difficulties. I asked the nurses if it was OK for them to call me after every visitation with my mom, especially towards the end. To be honest, with the work overload and staff shortages during the pandemic, I didn’t think they would be able to do it, but I spoke with the nurses and was given all the information we needed. I was able to communicate with my brother and sister to mentally and economically prepare for her passing. After our mom passed passed away, the support that we got from the hospice program included grief counselors. They were here to see what we needed, how we were doing, and to make themselves available. They understood that grief happens in phases but they wanted to make themselves available and for counseling services. During the different phases, everybody was very professional, and very caring at the same time. It’s a hard combination to find but it’s a necessary thing to have when dealing with the passing of a loved one.

I am very happy with the Uni Care hospice program. It covers many of my husband's needs and those of our family. Nurses Madeline and Alex are attentive to his health and medications. Nursing assistant Mollie helps me with his personal care needs. Social worker Raquel is attentive to our needs. Chaplain Elizabeth is also attentive to our spiritual needs. We have received the medical equipment we need, such as a hospital bed, his special wheelchair, his dining table, and more. Aracely and Tanya have also supported us from the beginning and have made it possible for us to receive these services. I am very grateful for all the support they give me.

I'm very happy with the program. When I've needed them, they've helped me immediately. When my mother has needed help, they've helped her immediately. They've been a great help to me. I'm very grateful for the help they've given me, and for the support of Elizabeth and José. It's been a blessing to have these kinds of opportunities. I'm also grateful for Mayra's help with my mother's care.
