I have absolutely nothing but positive things to say about the hospice staff, I’m sure everyone’s situation is different but every single employee that we came in contact with that visited and cared for my brother was compassionate, professional and simply exceptional. From Angel, that visited and set up the care, to every aide and nurse that continued that care. He entered hospice on a holiday weekend and we still had personnel stopping by to make sure he was cared for. Our experience was difficult, but they certainly helped to make it the best it could possibly be.

While some RN's are excellent others are not.. I am pleased with the Chaplain services and their knowledge about end of life and grief support. I was not prepared for the last few days our loved one was on hospice. I would be great if they had volunteers during this time, even for a few hours...

The service is lousy that it almost seems like they are deliberately killing my sister with missed nurse visits, nursing aides who are not neat, delayed delivery of supplies, and continuous increase of morphine and methadone doses to address pain regardless of overdosage. They get worried when patients seem to recover.

You have a choice, don't pick Kaiser's Hospice, even if you are a Kaiser member. When I told the large Senior Living facility where my 95 year old mom was living that we were having her evaluated for Hospice, they asked which organization. I answered Kaiser since that's her insurance. They were the ones that told me we could go to any Hospice and they have not had good experiences with Kaiser Hospice. So far I can say I agree with them. Mom's doc referred her and I received a call from a supervisor. She said that she reviewed mom's chart and was "on the fence" about mom's eligibility. She sounded like she had her mind made up even before the required in-person assessment. She said I would be called in the next few days by the evaluation nurse to set up a time for the Thursday we agreed on. I scheduled the day off work and waited, and waited. No one called me in the days leading up to Thursday. I was told the nurse only works in the morning. BTW, I don't get paid when I don't work, so I was worried I'm losing money and they aren't even available. The morning of the appointment, still no call. I have to call them. I'm on hold for 30 minutes. Finally some one answers and they connect me to the nurse who will do the assessment... that morning, with no time communicated to me ahead of time, where I have to drive 45 minutes to be there because they said I have to be present. When I bring this up, the nurse says "I only get here at 8:30!" Here are my takeaways: * they don't appear to take into account the state that family members are in, when considering to putting a loved one in hospice. * they don't make it easy for you and don't call to schedule a time in advance so family members can be confident the appointment will occur... adding to the existing stress level. * the nurse made excuses and didn't respond to my suggestion they call in advance. * the supervisor's words seemed to be setting me up for denial of care even though mom had not been assessed, and mom's doc saw her three weeks earlier and suggested her for hospice. Bottom line: if mom is denied I will certainly be calling another hospice who hopefully will treat the family members and patient with more courtesy and respect in this end of life situation. I wish I had skipped Kaiser and called a different hospice organization when I was warned.
