In early December 2024, my 93 year old mom began hospice care with CHANS while a resident at Thornton Hall. From the first meeting with an intake nurse, until her passing in early March 2025, each person treated us with such compassion and understanding, making an incredibly difficult situation much more bearable. The level of care and attention they provided was truly exceptional, ensuring that not only my mom felt supported but the family as well. Communication was excellent between CHANS and Thornton Hall staff, and updates to family also occurred on a regular basis. Kelly, Caitlyn, Megan, Kim, Delaney, Tracy, and Holly in particular were all such a comfort to her, especially in her final weeks. Their dedication to her dignity, comfort, and quality care was evident in everything they did. I’m especially thankful to Caitlyn, for being there with me when my mom passed. I’m deeply grateful for all their care, kindness and professionalism, and would highly recommend CHANS to anyone facing a similar situation.

I am a current patient of CHANS Home care and I use to be in the nursing field in home care. The intake nurse who came to my home to admit me to their agency was very pleasant and suggested the addition of a social worker from this agency as there is an immediate need concerning my residence. The social worker came to my home about 1 week later. She seemed pleasant and presented well. She understood, so I thought the medical necessity to vacate where I am currently residing due to carbon monoxide poisoning and as advised by my physicians. At first, it was believed that she would advocate for the need for a security deposit/ first months rent. Then this social worker would email me and give me names of potential resources and stated that she allegedly called them and wanted me to follow up, so I did. Then I receive an email from this social worker stating that I could advocate for resources on my own. I called the clinical case mgr. and had requested another social worker. She stated that the other social worker had a full list of clients. She stated the this social worker stated that she called multiple resources on my behalf. I requested that the clinical case mgr. supply the list of alleged calls made by this social worker, so that I could contact them. The clinical nurse mgr. stated that she did not have this list. I requested that she contact the social worker and supply this list. Whereas I did not receive this list and no attempt to contact me regarding this list, as I had previously stated to this nurse mgr., I would call the administrator. I contacted the President of CHANS. She asked me what I wanted for a resolution to this matter. I stated another social worker. She then referred this matter to the Quality Director of Chans. I spoke with him on 11/15/24 as he called me. He downplayed this and did not see the seriousness of this and stated that I could not have another social worker. Very unprofessional and kept stating that it was the responsibility of my pcp’s office as they are my long term caregivers. This was nothing short of “pass the buck.” I am in A-fib and this unnecessary stress and unprofessional social worker, nurse mgr. and Director of quality has emotionally upset me and should not be in these positions that they are in. There’s absolutely no excuse for such behaviors. I would never recommend this agency for a loved one… Patient discovered on Maine Health My Chart, Nurses’ Notes for 11/5/24 & 11/12/24 were false and misleading. Also, crossed the line of potential discrimination. When I found this out, I called the same nurse mgr. and had relayed what I saw on my chart concerning the false and misleading nurse’s notes that had been written. This nurse mgr downplayed this and acted like it was no big deal that this nurse did not document true account of the patient ie: stating that patient was non complaint, (not true) ,not following up with cardiologist, (not true) stating that the carbon monoxide poisoning was psychological,( not true) (3) transports to ER and (1) visit to my physician revealed elevation in my blood to be carbon monoxide. Also on 10/17/24, initial transport via rescue, the hospitalist called Northern NE Poison Control Center and the CDC.. then I was admitted to the hospital. I called to discuss with the President of CHANS. She seemed concerned about what took place. She stated that she would have the quality director call me. I received a call 11/15/24 after hours from quality director. He downplayed the seriousness of the nurses’ notes and passed the buck stating that it is my physician’s responsibility. Unbelievable. I stated that I would be speaking with the president again about the conversation that I had with the quality director. He stated that the president stated that the quality director would now be the person that I would speak to not the president. The quality director seemed to be nervous after I made the aforementioned statement as he kept stuttering ( not speech impediment) and kept restating that I needed to talk to him and gave me his number. Nightmare!!

I can't express how impressed I was with the skilled and compassionate care of everyone who came to our home from CHANS as my father was in hospice and dying. They not only demonstrated professionalism and stayed on top of every detail, but they also did their jobs with a sensitivity and care that helped our family tremendously during one of the hardest times in our lives. I can't recommend CHANS enough.

CHANS called the day I got out of the hospital for a broken neck last week. A therapist came the very next day and she is fabulous. Very glad she will be coming twice a week as I’ll be laid up for about 3 months. My husband had help from CHANS a couple years ago too after knee surgery and that was also very positive.

I have never been so disappointed in the quality of healthcare. This is not the place you want to be taking care of your love ones. First the nurses their have no empathy for the patient or their families. They had no respect at all for my fiancee mom. They talked down to her as if they were speaking to a child and tossed her around like a football while attending to her wounds. I was in healthcare myself and I would never have handled the situation like they did. When we wanted help we got the run around then the director called and he was no help at all. we were called liars .This is very unprofessional because nobody deserves to be treated this way. I do not recommend them. To care for your love ones or you will end up angry, disappointed, frustrated and with a lasp in care for your love one thanks to the lack of quality and care of this organization.
