Furthermore, should your loved one be experiencing a urinary tract infection and has not yet been medically evaluated due to appointment availability, they may discontinue services if any challenging behavior is observed, even if you explain that such behavior is atypical and is being addressed through medical consultation. Urinary tract infections are common trigger for sudden behavioral changes in seniors with some studies indicating the account for up to 15.4% of delirium cases which can manifest as agitation and combative behavior. As healthcare professionals, the nurse should have followed up with the physician to ensure the UTI test was conducted. This action was not taken on day 1. Therefore, what is the purpose of having a nurse? Instead, they applied a label and made claims without factual basis or proper knowledge. Furthermore, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Registered Nurses are not authorized to make a formal medical diagnosis. Please ensure that closing documentation and service dates are thoroughly reviewed to prevent overbilling of your insurance provider.. Nurses, OT, PT are not obligated to accept cases if they deem the situation unsafe. Therefore, the nurse should have conducted a follow-up during the initial visit to expedite a UTI test, thereby preventing service cancellation. However, it appears they are not concerned about this, as they stated they have a lot of request and can easily acquire another patient. This situation shows they do not act in the patient's best interest.
