My grandmother was recently put in hospice. We chose heartland instead of somc and it's the best decision we could have made for her! Everyone is have met so far, which has been many, I can't even remember all their names, have been phenomenal! Melissa has been an angel. Answering all my questions no matter the time of day and how many i have. Talking me through everything. Sweet as can be and you can tell she truly cares. Her social worker Lisa, has been a god send. You can just see the compassion and concern on her face. And she makes sure we know she is here not only for the patient but us as well, as we start on this new and scary journey. Such a sweet woman! Her aid, Kaitlyn Henderson, has been a literal life saver. My gramz has actually warmed up to her and tells her she loves her and every single time she says she loves her too. She is very thorough to make sure she's moving enough to not get bed sores, and she cleans her constantly and fully washes her hair. And the in home care nurses and aids she had before we came to heartland hospice was not doing any of this. And we're not nearly as sympathetic to the situation. Brooke and sandy are nurses she's had come, and they are precious. They are thorough as well, and you can just see and sense the concern and compassion they all have. If you have a family member that needs end of life care heartland is the way. I would use them anytime I had to use hospice again in the future. They make sure I understand each stage of this process and talk to me on a level I can keep up with in the midst of all the chaos. They've had to switch her meds a ton of times and every time something isn't working or she has a reaction they fix it and change it to a different medicine immediately they make it so easy they will even call the pharmacy if needed to get stuff done and ready quicker. They are all angels. Highly highly suggest them! I could never thank them or brag on them enough!

This is a horrible hospice. Please don't allow your loved ones to be admitted with them. They allow patients to die alone under the "the don't feel alone" excuse. They discharge elderly confused patients without understanding of what it means, without notifying their loved ones and explaining discharge planning. It's a shame someone hasn't stopped them from preying on our elderly people in the community. If NEGATIVE 5 star was an option I would give them that.

This hospice allowed my father to go severely septic and severely dehydrated from a gallbladder infection. The septic shock killed my father not his congestive heart failure! Despite not only mine, his and my families requests to have blood work done because we knew he had some type of an infection we were denied any help, they even tried to deny him a hospital trip when he was screaming in pain Monday night until I demanded they take him when they called. I called a social worker named Lisa and I got told what would blood work do? Bill the charge nurse/my dad’s case manager refused any treatment or even a check up for my father. Yes he was an DNR but you are required to treat them for anything else like any other dr would for infections that isn’t related to his original diagnosis. They have treated him before for UTIs so what made this time any different? Adams county hospital found a severely infected gallbladder and massive organ shut down so that’s exactly what blood work will do. My dad laid in PAIN for days before he passed on the 4th of July because of this. He was stable with his heart condition and renal failure before this no dialysis or anything. They were also pumping him full of morphine and oxys when he didn’t even need them. He wasn’t a stage 4 cancer patient. They are for profit and they don’t care because your dying any ways right? No, he was killed by this hospice. Do not send your love ones here. The only respond I’ve gotten is sorry for your experience and we are “ educating” the people who were assigned to your fathers case. So basically they will be allowed to go to other peoples homes and do all again with someone else’s loved ones.

We moved from Delaware to Pomeroy on Mar. 01, 2024. We moved from Heartland Columbus to Heartland Lucasville. My Mother had an issue and had to be transported to the hospital. She is on a ventilator, bed-ridden, and deep into dementia. She came home from the hospital on hospice care. The nurse that came to check her back in asked 2 questions: What does she weigh and does she have any bed sores. She's been on isomil through a stomach feed and in a bed 24/7 for a year and she was weighed in a bed with multiple layers of sheets, a sling and other things, she weighed more than when she came to us in Oct 2023, and because we invested in a mattress as well as the great care my better half has been providing, she has no bed sores. The nurse said she is no longer qualified for hospice, and that palliative care would be contacting us and walked out the door. After 2 weeks, we had still not heard from the palliative care so calling, finally found out that they have no one in our area so wouldn't be providing care. They are understaffed, so the aides show up whenever, walk in, do what they have to do (and as minimal as needed) then walk out the door...if they make it here at all. Heartland in Columbus was wonderful. Definitely can't say the same for any that are supposed to be handling Southeast Ohio. Also, Heartland has determined they no longer handle patients on a ventilator (not sure why as they provide no care pertaining to the ventilator). Patients can live too long on ventilators for them to care for anymore.

My aunt, Bertie Welch, was a resident at Randall Residence in Wheelersburg. I can’t thank you enough for sending Lisa Thomas (and other wonderful workers) to care for her in her last days. Lisa went above and beyond to ensure Bertie was treated like a queen. Catering to her every need and making her feel as special and comfortable as possible in the situation. I also want to acknowledge John Partlow. He was definitely a Godsend to her. He sang her favorite hymn, prayed with her and offered comforting words that eased her. Words can’t describe the care she was given. Thank you dearly for the amazing service provided during this heartbreaking time for our family.
