My dad has required 24/7 in-home care for quite some time due to a diagnosis of dementia/Alzheimer’s. As most people know, it is a condition that results in loss of short term memory at first that typically progresses into loss of all memory, including the names and identities of immediate family members. It can become scary and confusing for the individuals that have this ugly condition, being unaware of what is happening to them, and why. Their fear transitions into the inability to trust anyone, including those that adore and love them unconditionally. A vital aspect of caring for a dementia/Alzheimer victim is routine, and consistency of care and from the same individuals who provide it. This familiar caregiver routine/consistency helps to minimize triggers that can further complicate the condition and/or exacerbate the progression of their condition. My dad is dependent on this consistency and routine through private caregivers, family, and Heartland Home Health’s (HHH) personal caregiving aids. My dad has been a client of HHH for a few years now and we have been able to depend on them to send the same caregivers, whom he has grown to recognize and trust, to provide the care that he needs on a day- in -and-day-out basis. This is a TRUE GIFT that HHH provides my dad and peace of mind for my family. Recently HHH had to modify my dad‘s caregiver routine, needing to send new individuals to provide my dad‘s care. This was concerning, however, the administrators of HHH welcomed a visit from me and my sister, thoroughly explaining, what they identified as a temporary change. They further explained that they were hiring new staff who required training thus needing to pull my dad‘s caregivers to accomplish this task. Very understandable. To our great relief, they guaranteed my sister and me that my dad’s “consistent caregiver” providers would be restored to uphold my dad‘s needs for the highest quality care. Thank you.
